Building a Futuristic City: First Hyperloop in Dubai Won’t Be Carrying People

In Brief

•   The Dubai Future Accelerators is a 12-week intensive program for tech companies and entrepreneurs in Dubai to create breakthrough solutions that address seven key civic challenges.

•   During the program, Hyperloop One will be working on the world's first Hyperloop in close partnership with the government of the United Arab Emirates.

The Hyperloop Hype

The world’s first Hyperloop will be carrying cargo, not people, around the city of Dubai.

The company behind this endeavor, Hyperloop One, will be working on this super-fast transportation system in close partnership with the government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) through a program called Dubai Future Accelerators (DFA).

The DFA is a 12-week intensive program for tech companies and entrepreneurs in Dubai to create breakthrough solutions that address seven key civic challenges. It’s a $275 million initiative part of the Future Endowment Fund and the Dubai Future Foundation. Hyperloop One is among the companies that joined this venture to shape the future of the UAE’s most important industrial sectors.

Leading Future Tech Development

Apart from Hyperloop One, another company called Mobius is also at work in developing a Hyperloop for Dubai. The company won the International Hyperloop Competition organized by Dubai Future Foundation last September. All of the companies attending the program will share a new purpose-built facility alongside the seven government departments.

Dubai is dedicated in its efforts to be the city of the future – and the DFA is just one such effort. H.E. Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of the UAE Cabinet Affairs and the Future, and Vice Chairman of Dubai Future Foundation, says that the aim of the program is to “co-create solutions to global challenges and then share them with the world.”

“The UAE government has invited the world to help transform the future,“ says H.E. Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi. “We are proud to have some of the world’s most advanced companies participating in our inaugural program.”
