Expert Martin Ford believes the shift toward automation that benefits both consumers and retailers, like that used to power Amazon's cashier-less grocery store, is inevitable. Amazon Go is an example of how tech that exists right now could replace retail salespersons and cashiers, two jobs that had the highest employment numbers in the U.S. in May 2015.

After determining the number of suitable rooftops, researchers concluded that the U.S. could generate 1,118 GW of power from rooftop solar installations alone. As the tech used to harness solar power becomes cheaper, shifting from fossil fuels to clean energy alternatives will not only be better for the environment but our wallets, too.
